Honiton musician Scott Phillips wows crowds during his recent tour of London.

A HONITON musician has been wowing crowds in London after taking centre stage as a solo act.

Former lead singer and guitarist with folk rockers Sweet Black Angels, Scott Phillips recently performed at various venues in the capital with his new one-man act, The Peaceful Hooligan.

Scott embarked on a full-time solo career following Sweet Black Angels’ split last February. The band is poised to be reformed next month.

The Angels, once labelled ‘a breaking band’ by one of the country’s top music publications, parted company as a result of members’ increasing commitments outside of the band.

They had produced two recent albums and a music video for their single She Makes Me. Now Scott, a Honitonian, has been booked to play in a private club where he is likely to be performing in front of celebrities.

“The tour went really well and I have made lots of good contacts,” he said. “I have been booked to play in a private club for celebrities. I’ve enjoyed seeing the results of putting in the hard work to get my music out there.

“I wasn’t sure, when I went to London, whether it was the right thing to do, but I have met so many amazing people I’ll definitely be doing it again.”

There were many memorable moments for Scott on tour, but he says none were as eye opening as when he stayed on a council estate in Brixton for the week.

Scott said: “The most memorable moments of the tour were going back to some of the venues from 2006 and seeing how they have changed, especially going back to Guildford and seeing the flat I lived in for a year while studying studio recording there.

“It brought back a lot of good memories.”

He managed to squeeze in some sightseeing along the way and was able to visit landmarks including Big Ben and Buckingham Palace - although he admits he was too late for the royal wedding.

He added: “The gigs have been coming in thick and fast and in many new places that I have never played before.”

Despite his solo success, Scott has not forgotten Sweet Black Angels and is trying to revive the band with fellow musician and friend Smoo. They recently recruited new members to complete the line up.

The band will be playing at Brixton Jamm in London where they will be supporting Alabama 3 on July 1.

Scott is also working towards releasing a new solo album, which is due out later this year.
