South Somerset MP Marcus Fysh, joined an enthusiastic crowd of the region’s flower lovers for a “Let’s Celebrate Autumn” flower arranging demonstration.

The sell-out event took place at Combe St Nicholas Village Hall, near Chard, at the weekend.

Somerset’s award-winning floral designer, Jackie Nicholls from Ashville Design said: “Apart from the focus being on fun, flower arranging and education, this event was designed to promote friendship through flowers - and that was definitely achieved.

“I encouraged a bring and share lunch and was absolutely amazed at the amount and quality of food that started arriving, no-one went hungry!”

During the demonstration and a lot of laughter, the audience was treated to an abundance of gorgeous fresh blooms.

Amongst more than 30 designs made for the raffle, an exclusive piece was included which was created for a demonstration at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Rosemoor, Torrington, as part of their annual July Rose Festival this year.

There were also plenty of educational tips and tricks from the trade.

Ali Carson from Axminster and her friend Sue Hackett, from Dowlish Wake, were amongst those at the demonstration.

Ali said: “It was a really lovely day with very friendly people. The demonstrations were wonderful, from rustic baskets to fabulous celebratory displays. There was so much to learn from such a talented lady. Tutor Jackie amazed us all.”

Angela Long from Tatworth added: “It was a wonderful morning, absolutely inspiring. The arrangements were just fabulous - and I think we were all amazed at those Jackie ‘just made earlier!’”

Marcus Fysh MP said: “I had a wonderful time attending the flower arranging and admiring the beautiful flower arrangements on display. It was great to see so many members of the local community get together for such a fantastic event as brilliantly organised by Jackie Nicholls.”

Said Jackie. “Heartfelt appreciation must go to my audience and helpers for their overwhelming support – and very special thanks to Marcus for joining us.”
