The South West has one of the highest road death rates in England, according to a new report.
The IAM, Institute of Advanced Motorists, announced last week that a survey has highlighted vastly differing road casualty rates across the country.
Director of policy and research Neil Greig said: "There are more motorists than ever in the South West and the road death rate per head of population is one of the highest in England, closely following the East Midlands and East of England.
"In addition, investment in roads and road safety is particularly low, compared with other regions such as the West Midlands and North West.
"The Government has placed a strong emphasis on road safety, by proposing challenging 2020 casualty reduction targets and a fair deal for drivers. However, a lot of work still needs to be done to iron out the unacceptable variation in investment and casualty rates across the country.
