SAINSBURY'S offers the start of a new and exciting future for the town - according to Stand Up 4 Seaton.

The resident's organisation said it supported the supermarket's planning application in Seaton because they had listened to people's suggestions.

The proposal put to East Devon District Council includes a new tramway terminus, a visitor centre and, more controversially, a skate park.

But Sainsbury's has now written to residents of Fleet Court, who were concerned that the skate park would be near their homes, and is addressing the problem.

Lizzie Bewsher of Stand up 4 Seaton said: "The response seems to have been very well received and, in particular, the fact that they have given due consideration to the public response to their exhibition and incorporated many of the suggestions into their plans.

"With a landmark Visitor Centre which includes a third floor viewing platform and a re-sited Tourist Information Centre, a new tramway terminus with its own shop and cafe, inspired re-use of the current tourist Information Centre into a SUSTRANS hub for visiting cyclists and many other features, residents and visitors alike aren't given the impression that this is all or only about a new store in the town."

The group said that with the loss of the Lyme Bay Holiday Village and its visitors many businesses in Seaton had been struggling to survive.

They are now urging all of those who approve of these plans to write to EDDC stating their support (reference number 09/0557) and they will be planning an event in June to voice their support to councillors
