THIS was the moment the Mayor of Honiton, Councillor Vivienne Ash, turned out at 7am to see off a team of runners, who carried The Baton from Honiton to Plymouth Hoe.
THIS was the moment the Mayor of Honiton, Councillor Vivienne Ash, turned out at 7am to see off a team of runners, who carried The Baton from Honiton to Plymouth Hoe.
The Baton, which contains a message of support for British troops, travelled to Plymouth via the Royal Marines' Commando Training Centre at Lympstone.
The runners were met at Lympstone by Colonel Jim Hutton and directed to a memorial wall, where a minute's silence was observed and the team blessed.
A landing craft ferried the team from Exmouth to Starcross, where runners re-grouped with their support team.
Vital back-up transport was provided by Harts of Honiton and Hookway coaches.
The 66-mile run ended on the Hoe, where the Baton was handed to Lieutenant Colonel Gary Green RM, who will now take it across Norway on an epic 1,000 mile ski challenge.
Alan Rowe MBE, who founded The Baton charity last year and who was one of the runners, said: "As usual, the team spirit was incredible and a privilege to be part of.
