DEFRA approve proposals for funding.
Proposals to resolve Feniton’s flood problems have taken a step forward.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has approved proposals for funding to help towards a flood prevention scheme following a bid made by East Devon District Council.
However, it is not yet known how much funding DEFRA will provide.
The district council’s draft budget, which is subject to the full council’s agreement on February 20, has proposed spending £500,000 over the next two years.
A distric council spokesman said: “We’re extremely pleased to see this important scheme take a big step forward.
“Although the precise amount of DEFRA funding and the timescale has yet to be determined, this means we can start on the fine detail of the plan and have discussions with the Environment Agency and Devon County Council about making up the likely remaining funding.
“As with any major scheme there are a lot of steps along the way, but this has been a really important one which gives us much more confidence that a scheme can be achieved.”
