AXE Valley Community College will close its doors to years seven to 11 on tomorrow (Thursday), as a result of strike action. The strike, by members of the National Union of Teachers, will mean the school will only have its sixth form operating for the day. Students at The Woodroffe School have been warned of possible disruption to lessons. The effect of the strike elsewhere will be limited with Colyton Grammar School and primary schools in the area largely unaffected by the action. The strike was called by the NUT following a ballot in March, which saw members vote in favour of the action, by a three to one majority. The union is calling for a better pay deal that is in line with inflation. It said the current offer would deter graduates from entering the profession and prevent them from getting on the housing ladder.
