But other district council services could be affected.

WHILST there is currently uncertainty about what impact the TUC’s national day of action on Wednesday might have on services delivered by East Devon District Council, the authority has given householders one sure piece of reassurance this week – waste and recycling collections will go ahead as normal.

A spokesman said: “Residents may be wondering if waste collections will be hit by the strike. Whilst we cannot be sure how many of our own staff will be staying at home on Wednesday, we ARE able to say that collections in villages around Honiton* will not be affected on strike day.

“This is because our waste and recycling collections are carried out by a contractor and their staff are not part of the day of action.”

EDDC is currently waiting to see how many of its staff take part in the day of action. Others may have to stay at home to look after their children if schools close. These employees will be taking a day’s holiday to do so.

Any impact of the strike will be minimised by EDDC’s contingency plans.
