THE installation of a new structure to support a thatch roof in New Street is necessary to "preserve Honiton".Mr G Wood is seeking Listed Building Consent to carry out the work, at 39 New Street.Supporting documentation explains the existing roof structure is defective, Councillor Michael Teare, chairman, told Honiton Town Council's planning committee last week.Councillor Liz Tirard, the committee's vice chairman, said: "I think we have to approve this, because they've got to have the work done. It's preserving Honiton."The committee recommended the application for approval.
