Axe Valley Community College hosts a jug making workshop with acclaimed artist Amanda Popham

Acclaimed local artist Amanda Popham held a workshop for ASPIRE students at Axe Valley Community College.

She showed youngsters the techniques used to work and mould clay into creative jugs.

Some of the students had never worked with this material before and learnt very quickly how to master the art of using water and moulding with their fingers to produce a smooth and professional finish on the sculptures.

Once the pieces are fired and dried they will be ready for the painting workshop after Easter.

Meanwhile the Upper School ASPIRE artists will be working with Axminster artist Ricky Romain on oil paintings, before the Easter holidays.

* The ASPIRE Arts programme is designed to encourage youngsters who are gifted and talented in the arts and includes pupils from local primary schools.
