Honiton Community College students appeal for help with their fund-raising efforts.

Honiton students have a mountain to climb as they continue to raise money for a trip to India and are appealing to the community to lend a hand.

Charlotte Bolton, Lydia Boland, Lara, Drake, Sophie Lavis, Frederica Lemon, Sophie Pike, Hazel Wilkinson and Rory Norrington are hoping to travel to Northern India and tackle the Himalayan mountains as part of a World Challenge programme.

The students have to raise more than 3,000 each and have been busy fund-raising – holding market and cake stalls, car-boot sales and gaining part-time jobs.

Student Rory Norrington said: “Honiton is such a small town - all the help we can get would be really appreciated.”

As part of the World Challenge trip, the group will be working in orphanages and hopes to help with some teaching or even building classrooms.

The students have already been preparing for a 4,500 metre climb up the Himalayas – practising rope ascents and descents as well as shelter building and food preparation.

Assistant principal Iain Slade, who will be travelling to India with the students, said: “It is not necessarily donating money. If anyone has got any ideas or ways to help, let us know.”

If anyone can help or has any hiking or outdoor equipment contact the college on 01404 42283.
