A group of Chard School pupils have scooped third place in a mathematics championship - despite being the smallest group taking place.

It was the first time Chard School has taken part in the Maths Quiz Club Championships.

After a tense battle, Chard School finished the event in third place - a good achievement as they were the smallest school and the team was made up of Year 5 and Year 6 students, while the other competiting teams comprised just Year 6 pupils.

Mrs Pielesz, head of maths at Chard School, said: "The team performed incredibly well using all their subject knowledge and problem solving strategies that they have worked on in class and in the school's maths club.

"I am looking forward to starting the build-up to next year's competition in September and am hoping to put forward two teams to compete in the next championships. Well done to our team of maths students!"
