Picture of a fishing boat entering Axmouth Harbour takes the top prize
A picture of a fishing boat entering Axmouth harbour has been voted winner of the #SnapSeaton photography competition.
Visit Seaton, an initiative by the town council, ran the contest throughout April and May to encourage visitors and locals to post photos of the resort on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
There were nearly 200 entries across the social media platforms.
The judging panel included Devon Life editor Andy Cooper, local photographer Richard Austin, Seaton Town Mayor Peter Burrows, Events Officers Juliette Williams and Admin Assistant Michelle Oldfield, both from Seaton Town Council.
The winning image of a fishing boat at Axmouth Harbour was taken by Martin Lamb from St. Neots, Cambridgeshire. Martin, an amateur photographer, his wife and two girls have enjoyed five self-catering holidays in Seaton since 2010.
Martin said: “We love Seaton’s beach, its quiet town, the scenery and the location being close to other attractions and places to visit. The photo was taken on a late August early-afternoon after a spot of crabbing at Axmouth harbour and a dip at the beach where the river meets the sea.”
Highly commended were Alex Moorehead, from Beer, with his beautiful sunset; Mark Herrick from Ilminster who captured a ‘Lady and her dog’; and Polly Elizabeth, from Seaton, for her pink and orange sunrise.
The winners will receive their image on a canvas print and the four photos will be made into post cards and available in Seaton * The Friends of Seaton Library (FOSL) is launching a photographic competition for all ages, to be run during the summer.
The theme is “Active East Devon” and subjects could include sporting, leisure, animal, bird life - entrants may choose whatever they wish.
Photos must be no larger than A4 size and mounted on thin card, but not framed. People need to write their contact details on the back.
The closing date is Monday, September 3, and entries can be sent by post or dropped in to Seaton Library in Queen Street. Entries by email are not accepted.
The photos submitted will be displayed in the library during September and prizes for the winners will be awarded for all ages. Entry is free.
