Community-run shop beats the big supermarkets on waste rates.

A community shop in Payhembury is leading the way when it comes to waste rates.

Payhembury Provisions has bucked the trend after achieving a wastage rate of 1.4 per cent compared to the national average of six to eight per cent met by supermarkets.

This has been thanks to a new till system purchased with a grant from the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership.

The EPOS till system helps to monitor stock levels and ordering requirements very precisely, enabling the shop to meet demand and support local farmers without wasting produce.

Payhembury Provisions opened its doors last July and is owned and run by community shareholders.
