Coastguard helicopter and Lyme Regis lifeboat join police hunt after fears a man was planning to jump off Golden Cap

A major land and sea search was launched near Lyme Regis at around noon yesterday (Saturday) after fears a man was planning to jump off a cliff.

Coastguards, supported by their rescue helicopter and the local lifeboat crew, assisted Dorset Police with the search for a reportedly suicidal man who had told people he was on his way to Golden Cap.

A thorough search of the area was begun but as more information was gained, doubt set in.

The man was eventually located where he had last been seen, in the gardens above Marine Parade at Lyme Regis.
