A POLICE helicopter was called to Axmouth to search for thieves after they stole items from a caravan lock up. Police stopped a White Ford Transit van travelling out of Seaton after reports of a break-in at a caravan compound in Axmouth where items had been stolen. On stopping the van, its occupants ran off, managing to evade police officers. A helicopter and dog handlers were called in but, after searching for two hours, found no trace of the culprits. Police strongly suspect the occupants of the vehicle were responsible for the burglary and have sent the contents of the van off for analysis. Anyone with information regarding the crime should contact Seaton police on (08452) 777444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting crime reference number KN/08/45.
