Six-year old Suzie Rood will be this year’s Uplyme Fete princess.

She took the coveted title after winning a drawing competition which was judged by a panel of local artists.

She said of her entry, entitled “Where I live”, that it depicted Uplyme as a “beautiful place where the people are nice”.

He deputy will be Rosie Vincent, who is just completing her first year at school. She will travel alongside Suzie in a pony and trap during the traditional procession from Mrs Ethelston’s school ahead of the opening ceremony at the playing field at 2pm on Saturday (June 15).

The parade will also include the Karizma majorettes, the cubs, beavers and brownies along with local dignitaries including MP Neil Parish, and the mayors of Lyme and Axminster.

Paul Atterbury the fete guest of honour and a long time star of the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, will also take part in the procession and present Suzie and Rosie with their awards.

River Cottage’s Head Chef Gill Mellor is sure to be a sizzling success with his speciality hog roast - just one of the many alternative eating delights on offer at the fete.

Tension is growing over the battle for Uplyme boasting rights as the firemen and lifeboat crews prepare for an all or bust tug-of-war confrontation.

The fete, which runs from 2-5pm, on Uplyme Playing Fields, has entertainment and stalls for all the family. There is falconry, magic and juggling, dancing and bands, with exciting competitions, lovely food and refreshments. And to cap it all a grand draw with nearly 30 spectacular prizes headed by a 30 minute flight over Lyme Regis. Entry programmes, that include a draw entry, are now on sale at local outlets priced £2 (accompanied children free).
