HONITON Surgery is taking advice from the Health Protection Agency to ensure its staff are prepared to deal with a possible outbreak of swine 'flu in the town.
HONITON Surgery is taking advice from the Health Protection Agency - to ensure its staff are prepared to deal with a possible outbreak of swine 'flu in the town.A statement, issued by the surgery yesterday (Tuesday), urged anybody with symptoms to telephone and not visit the premises "in order to try and limit the spread of the illness".GPs are urging residents to cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing, to bin used tissues and to wash their hands.Anti-viral drugs will not be dispensed from the surgery. Instead, the government is planning to set up separate distribution centres, should the need arise.GPs are considering setting up a dedicated 'flu hotline.In the meantime, anybody with 'flu-like symptoms is urged to drink plenty of fluids, take rest and call NHS Direct on 0845 4647.Alternatively, call 0800 1513513 for more specific information about swine 'flu.
