Young swimmer makes anonymous donation of 180 to the Lyme RNLI team’s lifejacket appeal

A 13-year-old boy’s anonymous donation has boosted the RNLI’s lifejacket fund in Lyme Regis.

He raised 180 by taking part in the town’s annual New Year’s Day swim.

The youngster, from Somerton, sent the cash to the local Rotary Club, organisers of the Lyme Lunge.

Rotarian John McCallum said:”We were delighted to receive the cheque in the post because we thought all the funds were in.

“But it is apparent that the lad wishes to remain anonymous. All the same we would like to thank him very much on behalf of the Rotary Club and the RNLI.

“It was truly wonderful effort by such a young man.”

The boy’s cheque took the total raised by the Rotary Club during the annual dip in the sea to 1,700.

John McCallum presented the cheque on behalf of the young donor to lifeboat crew member Jon Broome.
