Teenage driver dies in A35 collision between Honiton and Axminster

A teenager has died after his vehicle went off the road into a ditch near Wilmington.

Police were called at 10.30pm last night (Thursday) following reports of a collision on the A35.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Emergency services attended the scene where a Honda had made contact with another vehicle before leaving the road and coming to a stop in a ditch.

“The driver, a 19-year-old man, sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision and was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin are aware and formal identification is yet to take place.”

The driver of a Rover involved in the incident sustained a minor hand injury.

The A35 was closed overnight and reopened at around 9.15am this morning.
