Ten Christmassy events to get you in the festive spirit in East Devon

Struggling to get in the festive spirit in the lead up to Christmas? Here is a list of ten seasonal events to help improve your holiday cheer.
Sidmouth Christmas lights switch-on – Saturday (tomorrow), 5.30pm onwards
The beautiful seaside town will be lit up with a dazzling display while musical duo Ashley Leeds and guitarist Will Vine, AKA Vine & Dandy play their hearts out.
Axminster lantern parade and switch-on – Friday, November 24, 4pm onwards
Watch the sky and streets light up while you enjoy mulled wine and carols.
It will be the town’s first ever grand lantern parade and is expected to attract hundreds. There will be a Christmas market, choir performances, a memory tree and a grand raffle. The parade will start at the George Hotel at 5.30pm and will lead down to Trinity Square for the switch-on.
Christmas Fair at Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary – Weekend of November 25 and 26, all day
Visit Santa and his reindeer/donkeys in his grotto!
There will be something for the grown-ups too - adults will be able to enjoy a hot drink and browse the Christmas fair which will be packed full of local traders selling unique festive gifts and edible treats at the Slade House Farm event.
Entry is £2 for adults, which includes entry in a free prize draw while under 12s are free. To see Santa it’s £4 per child and includes a gift.
Ottery’s Christmas Tree Festival – Wednesday, November 29 to Saturday, December 2, all day
The grounds at the Parish Church will be brought to life with colour and lights when different groups in town put their own festive spin on different Christmas trees.
It is a sight to behold, with everyone from scouts and police to the town council getting involved.
Sidmouth Christmas Art and Craft Fair – Friday, December 1 to Sunday, December 3, all day
Enjoy festive treats and drinks while you shop for handmade Christmas gifts at Kennaway House.
It will be open from 10am until late on the Friday, 9.30am until 5.30pm on the Saturday and from 10am until 4.30pm on the Sunday.
Ottery Christmas Light switch-on – Friday, December 1, 6pm onwards
There will be a torchlight procession, a visit from Santa with presents and rides in Gliddon’s Steam Engine as well as much more. Visitors will also be able to make the most of the late night shopping.
Festive afternoon tea – 9am until 5pm – Honiton Garden Centre
Why not enjoy hot mince pies and mulled wine with delicious Christmas-themed treat while listening to festive tunes.

Exmouth winter wonderland at Lower Halsdon Farm – Saturday, December 9, 11am until 10pm
Celebrate the magic of Christmas while listening to live entertainment and enjoying marshmallows and smores on the fire pit.
There will be fabulous artisan market stalls, food, drink, entertainment, grottos and carol singing around the tree along with fairy lights galore.
Some actors will also be taking to the stage to create a Christmas nativity with the children.
Tickets are £5 for adults and children are free. Schnapps and a gingerbread men will be given on arrival.
Reindeer trail at Seaton Wetlands – Monday, December 18, 10.30am to 3pm
Santa will need the help of young explorers to track down his missing reindeer at Seaton.
Once they have solved the clues education rangers will then be ready at the Reed Base, in Colyford Road, with Christmas crafts and hot drinks to help everyone warm up.
The event is free but there is a guide price of £3 per child.
Festive music event, in Dunkeswell – Saturday, December 2 – 7pm to 11pm
Go back in time to Christmas past at this music filled Swingtime event.
This lively show at Throgmorton Hall, in Culme Way, will feature international vintage vocalist and trumpeter Ricky Hunter and music from Hits of Wartime, Big Band Era and Jive and Lindy. 40’s dress is preferred but not essential.
