ON what grounds will Tesco base its planning appeal over East Devon District Council's refusal to allow a new store in Honiton?

That's the question town councillors posed at a meeting last night.

Town clerk Lyn Hargood has been instructed to attend the four-day hearing, taking place at Knowle next month. A councillor is likely to address the hearing, and a written representation will also be submitted.

"We need to know the grounds on which Tesco is appealing," said Councillor Roy Coombs. "We need to see that in good time, I would suggest."

~Former mayor Councillor Vernon Whitlock said: "It is essential we have someone there all the way through."

Mrs Hargood is to liaise with East Devon District Council - to find out as much as she can about the appeal hearing.
