IT has to be good news for Honiton – the town council s response to news that Tesco had lost its planning appeal for a new store in Ottery Moor Lane.

IT has to be good news for Honiton" - the town council's response to news that Tesco had lost its planning appeal for a new store in Ottery Moor Lane.

Councillor Vivienne Ash, acting chairman of the council and deputy mayor, told a meeting last week: "I really would like to thank everyone on this council for the way they conducted themselves.

"We endeavoured to address the planning issues and that told."

Town and district councillor said the result of the appeal hearing was "a marvellous example of the whole town working together" and former mayor Councillor Vernon Whitlock said the "whole of the town needs to be congratulated. We made history here."

Councillor Ash added: "I hope we will have positive dialogue with Tesco in the future and move on from here.
