TESCO in Axminster has revealed it wants to include a footbridge link to the town centre as part of its extension plans.
The store proposes putting in a 350,000 footbridge from the upper level of the proposed new store and car park.
The move comes following consultations earlier this year with the Chamber of Commerce, the town council, and other organisations.
The supermarket will submit its planning application to extend the store later this month.
Tesco said the proposed extension was in response to shoppers' calls for an increased range of products and improved product availability.
Research commissioned by the supermarket giant showed that 78 per cent of shoppers interviewed wanted to see the store improved, with 66 per cent asking for a greater range of products and improved product availability.
