WOOLWORTHS in Lyme Regis is closing, staff were told yesterday (Tuesday).

WOOLWORTHS in Lyme Regis is closing, staff were told yesterday (Tuesday).The retailer later confirmed to the Herald that it has accepted an offer from Tesco Stores Limited for the lease of its premises, in Broad Street.After 44 years of business in the resort, Woolworths will cease trading on Saturday, October 25. The 16 employees have been informed and are in a 30 day consultation period to discuss alternative employment opportunities with Woolworths.A spokesperson for Woolworths said: "We have said for some time now that, if it is financially right for the company to do so, it will take the opportunity to exit stores."This does not mean there will be widespread store closures. Woolworths has 13 other stores nearby, including Seaton. "These stores are unaffected and will not be closing.
