The magic of Venice captured in pastels at Seaton art group

Seaton and District Art Society’s April demonstration was given by talented Gloucestershire artist Christine Russell, whose favourite medium is soft pastel.

She prefers painting outdoors in order to directly observe the subtleties of light on surface texture. However, as her subject this time was Venice, a photograph was the only answer - but it was one of her own.

Christine built up layers while allowing the under-painting, in acrylic ink, to show through. As pastel is a dry medium, there is no mess and no waiting about for layers to dry.
