BUCKINGHAM Palace has already made the move to energy efficient lightbulbs, the Herald found out this week.In last week's phone-in on the subject, Vicky O'Hara, 55, from Ottery St Mary, asked how the elegance of Buckingham Palace would be retained if the Queen was forced to give up the traditional incandescent light bulbs. We put in a call to Buckingham Palace, only to find out that the transition to energy efficient lightbulbs has started.A spokesman for the palace said: "We are already using the energy efficient bulbs. With modern manufacturing, we are able to get candle-shaped bulbs to fit in the chandeliers."We also use LED bulbs for spotlights. As old appliances and lights reach the end of their life, we are using energy-efficient replacements, so the withdrawal of the traditional bulbs will not make a lot of difference."As with any responsible organisation, as things need changing, so we look for the best modern alternative.
