Two appliances from the town's fire station travelled just around the corner, to Lee Close, after a 999 call was received reporting smoke coming from a property.
The call was received at 2.27pm yesterday (Tuesday), but the fire was found to be out when the crews arrived.
A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "There was a small fire in a second floor flat, which was out when our crews arrived.
