Thought for the Week

We had a flower festival at Shute recently. A few years ago, I would have thought of flower festivals as boring and old-fashioned but, in my experience of the past few years, I have been pleasantly surprised by the creativity and the life that is very much a part of these community events.
There are also the obligatory cream teas, which is never a bad thing – well, for the soul at least.
We end our flower festivals with a celebratory evening prayer from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, another tradition I have discovered is enjoyable, with its music and beautiful prayers.
It is too easy to dismiss tradition as irrelevant or boring, when more often than not these things have stayed part of our community life because they are good and enjoyable. Rather than trying something new, try something old for a change - you may enjoy it!
