Candlemas.

On Wednesday, February 2, it is the Festival of The Presentation of Christ in the Temple – catchy name, eh?

It’s also known as Candlemas and is the day when many churches remember Jesus as a baby being brought to be dedicated (presented) to God when he was 40 days old, as is the tradition of the Jewish faith.

This special day is a reminder that for Christians the most important thing we hold dear isn’t tradition or worship (church) or even a book (Bible); the most important part of our faith is the person who showed God to us in a way that no-one before and no-one since could, because he was God made human.

We don’t worship a God who lives in a church or in the pages of a book, but a God who presented himself to us as one of us - the man who is God, Jesus Christ.
