We are at the end of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity – which passed most of us by completely.
It’s an important week, though, because it recognises that, though different parts of the church may do things differently and disagree on some issues, all Christians should be united by faith in Jesus Christ.
I thank God that I learnt to love the Bible in Honiton Evangelical Congregational Church as a child. I learnt to love worship in Honiton Baptist Church as an older teenager and that I found a home where those things were valued along with different ways of living, worshipping and learning in the Church of England.
Diversity and difference doesn’t need to mean division – following Jesus should unite us, and we shouldn’t let different doctrines or traditions split us up.
May we all find a church that is home for us and find our place in the Christian family.
