Thought for the week

Sometimes, when we do things again and again, it becomes meaningless – ‘rituals’ that seem meaningless and unimportant. Sometimes ‘rituals’ become more important as time goes on – the ‘ritual’ of Sunday lunch was always important in my family, especially as we all grew up but made time to be together one time each week.

Likewise, now ‘bedtime rituals’ with my children: snack, doing teeth, stories and prayers are the most important part of most evenings.

Remembrance Sunday is like that, too. The more times I say prayers for Remembrance, see the standards lowered, hear last post and reveille sounded, the more I realise how important it is to take time to remember those who have given their lives in the ‘great wars’ of the last century and those who still seek to serve their country – and all people – in the hope of peace and a better world. We will remember them.
