The schemes will eventually have their fate determined by East Devon planners.

Here are three planning applications which will be debated by Honiton Town Council’s planning committee next Tuesday (September 19).

Air Training Corps hall, St Marks Road (17/1971/FUL)

This application proposes the demolition of the former Air Training Corps hall in Honiton to make way for seven terraced houses.

The scheme was put forward by Phil Colemon on behalf of Tiva Properties Ltd.

The proposed homes are two storeys each and follow the styling and materials of the surrounding development.

Each home will offer a small front garden and ‘recreation space’ to the rear.

The Old Court, Dowell Street (17/1486/MRES)

Applicants Paul and Greg Layzell want to build the two properties on land to the rear of The Old Court in Dowell Street, which was converted to Layzell Funeral Services.

Their application says the land became available when a redundant building on it - namely the former registrars office at The Old Court - was removed.

The land had no use in regard to the parlour.

The proposed homes will have three bedrooms and offer two parking spaces each.

The plans were amended after concerns were raised over access to the new homes - namely that the driveway was too narrow to allow fire engines through to get to them.

Fears were also expressed that any additional housing would add the site’s already ‘problematic’ drainage system.

Dolphin Court, High Street (17/2173/COU)

This application proposes the conversion of a section of a historic two-storey building in the heart of Honiton into six new flats.

Applicant Great Western Properties Ltd wants to convert Dolphin Court into the one-bedroom properties.

Currently, Dolphin Court houses Honiton Carpets, with offices above.

The building lies to the rear of the former Dolphin Hotel, a Grade II listed building now known as Montgomery’s.

The applicants say each flat would offer its occupant(s) a ‘good standard of amenity’.

Each application’s fate will be determined by East Devon planners at a later date.

Next week’s planning meeting will be held at The Beehive, in Dowell Street, starting at 7pm.

The meeting is open to members of the public.
