It was heartening to see Chris Byrne-Jones' letter last week, pledging two percent of his profits to the Seaton Phoenix charity. He has set an example that should make others sit up and think.

Too often, the cry in Seaton is "what can you do for me?" rather than "what can I do for you?". In times like these, which are likely to get harder rather than easier, the whole of Seaton (not just the few who seem to volunteer for almost everything or those whose voices are loudest) needs to pull together and try to weather what may be one of the worst storms the town has ever gone through.

There are many people with energy and skill who have, perhaps, sat on the sidelines in the past and thought that the town can get on without them or that they have done their bit and don't want or need to do any more.

Get involved, please, get those skills polished up and used for Seaton's benefit - a town is only as good as its people.

Well done, Chris - now let's see how many follow your example.
