Healthy eating group needs help to expand its important work with young people
There are only six days left to vote for ‘Changing Lives Through Food’ - Axminster-based healthy eating charity HALFF’s project for young people and children in South Somerset and East Devon.
With enough votes by the April 3 deadline the group hopes to win some £50,000 from the National lottery’s People’s Project.
The money will help to support more children like Liam, who has attended Young Carers Sessions in the past.
Liam is a carer for his father who is disabled. His mother died a few years ago. He became very involved with cooking at the sessions and told HALFF that it helps him to develop his skills so that he can cook at home, and he also really benefits from the “time out” that he has at the club. He loves the chance it gives him not only to cook the meal, but also to eat it too!
Anna Colins from Devon Young Carers said: “I have seen a big development and growth of a lot of the children which has been lovely to see - some behaviour and concentration improvements, definite improvements on knife skills and independence in their cooking.
“Thank you so much for providing these sessions for us as I can definitely see the benefit that they have had.”
