Movember 2012 comes to an end in Honiton.

There were moustaches of all different shapes, sizes and styles in Honiton last Friday, marking the end of the month-long Movember challenge.

The mayor, Councillor David Foster, held a celebratory shave-off event at the Turk’s Head Lodge.

Entries strutted their stuff on the catwalk to Right Said Fred’s I’m Too Sexy and were judged by Alan Rowe MBE, of Alan Rowe Barbering, MP Neil Parish and Midweek Herald reporter Katy Griffin.

Local PCSO Barry Redford won the coveted trophy and special Movember sash for the best overall moustache and another prize for the bushiest.

The best catwalk entry went to Jasper Tirard while town crier Dave Retter was awarded the most unique accolade for his red, white and blue tache, and the best effort went to “Nick”.

Geoff Foster was given the most stylish award.

During the evening a raffle was held and a special moustache shaped cake was auctioned off.

The mayor and his team the Movember Lads, made up of town crier Dave Retter, Gary Elliot, Oliver Buss, Jasper Tirard, Shane Quick, Mark Steward, Mahler Fox, Dave Hall and Mark Spink, have so far raised between 1,300 and 1,400 for prostate and testicular cancer charities.

Councillor Foster praised the efforts of fellow team mate Mark Spink, who works at the Turk’s Head Lodge, who raised 456.50.

He also thanked the Turk’s Head Lodge, which donated the hall for free for the event, and everyone who took part and supported Movember.

Mr Foster hopes the event will be even bigger and better next year.
