HONITON needs a town centre manager, according to Councillor Peter Halse.He believes such an appointment would reduce the workload of existing council employees, but warned: "It will be an expensive business."Councillor Halse was speaking at a policy committee meeting last week when it was suggested that staffing levels need to be increased.Town clerk Lyn Hargood presented a report, which proposed an increase in hours for one part-time member of staff and the appointment of a planning clerk.The council has included a sum of �9,000 in the current precept for additional staffing.Councillor Halse praised Exmouth's town centre manager, Tony Collins, of Offwell, saying he was doing an "excellent" job."I do believe we will have to talk about the appointment of a town centre manager," he said."We can't expect the town clerk to do it all."Honiton is an attractive place, but we can't rest on our laurels.
