SEATON Town Council has recommended it takes ownership of various land in the area from East Devon District Council.During councillors' monthly meeting on Monday, it was proposed the council transferred the following assets: land and buildings at Elizabeth Road Playing Field, Scalwell Lane, the picnic site at Seaton Down Hill, the traffic island in Marine Place and Cliff Gardens.Councillor Jim Knight said the council had a lease and maintained the land, so should reap the benefits with a freehold - and sole ownership of it.He said: "I think this is one area we should really go for because we still have to pay for it and land is a valuable commodity."He added that other places such as the Elizabeth Road playing area should be seized for community use.Councillor Peter Burrows said as they had been 'lumbered' with Cliff Gardens and had to 'fork' out money, they would be better off owning it.Councillor Knight argued it was for the enhancement of the town.
