I am writing to you with reference to the proposed Tesco relocation. I feel it is time the young people of Honiton (myself included) were listened to. To be fair, what is the issue with the relocation? Do you see other towns losing their High Streets, just because a big chain supermarket came to town? No. Why is it going to affect the shops within the town? If you already shop at your butcher's/baker's etc, why will you stop just because there's a bigger Tesco? Other than the traffic issues a new store may cause (but let's bear in mind there are congestion issues already which need looking at; long before Tesco came into the equation), I really do not understand what the issue is. It will provide jobs for the town and possibly persuade other big stores to come to town and then, maybe, the under-30s population (including my friends!) won't be leaving their hometown by the bus load! I also believe rather than driving people away, it will bring more people to the town. Surely this can only be a good thing? How many of you travel to Exeter or Taunton (if not further) to do some decent shopping? I am proud of everything Honiton is famous for and I love our unique shops and boutiques that you won't find anywhere else. But, if the older generation of this town turn down this proposed development, Honiton will become a town for the retired, with absolutely nothing going for it. Do we need another Sidmouth? Let's not let that happen to our town: let's move with the times and help build a Honiton my children will be proud of and happy to live in; a place where old meets new, history and heritage stands beside future progression: not a place that they cannot wait to leave. Is that not the way forward? Charli YeoSt Paul's RoadHoniton
