Spooky Hallowe’en trips planned at Seaton Electric Tramway

Nervous passengers are set for a bumpy ride with Seaton Electric Tramway later this month.

Spooky trips are being planned to celebrate Hallowe’en over half term week.

They are one of a number of special autumnal activities planned for October and November.

Managing director Jenny Nunn said: “Seaton Tramway has special ghostly goings-on for Hallowe’en and it’s a great day out, rain or shine, so if the weather is ‘shocking’ people should come to us!”

In the run-up to winter bird watching tram rides are also planned with local expert ornithologists, Ian Waite, Don Cotton and Donald Campbell.

There are over 50 species of bird which visit the area during the changing seasons. The tram – ‘a bird hide on wheels’ - travels slowly and silently through two beautiful nature reserves at Seaton Marshes and Colyford Common, stopping at points of particular interest on the glorious three-mile journey along the Axe Valley Estuary.

And it’s the early bird that gets the best spot on board, with trips taking place between 9am and 11am on two Saturdays in October - 13 and 27 - and on Friday, November 9. Booking is essential, as places are limited on the tram. Tickets are 12.50 per person and include a hot drink.

Meanwhile, ‘Pink Friday’, on October 19, will see special departures from the Seaton terminus at 10.30am, noon and 3.30pm for Breast Cancer Research. People can travel for just 1 return and donate the balance of the usual fare to the charity.

Added Jenny: “We hope lots of visitors will wear pink to show their support for Breast Cancer Research. The shop and restaurant, at Colyton, will have a range of pink paraphernalia and refreshments. With fantastic support from our visitors and staff we’ve raised nearly 2,000 over the past couple of years with similar events.”

The ‘Tram of Terror’ will run from October 22 to 31 (half term), departing from Seaton each day at 10.30am, noon, 1.30pm and 3pm.

There will be spooky entertainment each day with Cosmo the clown and his vampire act from 11am to 4pm, except on October 28, when there will be face painting between 11am and 4pm, together with ‘horrible Hallowe’en’ games.

Also included are revolting refreshments at Colyton, and a “Baddie bag” for the bravest of children who take up the challenge.

Booking is essential and inclusive tickets are 9.95 for adults, 7.95 for three to 16-year-olds and 4.95 for under threes.
