A FORMAL vote of thanks has been recorded by Honiton Town Council in recognition of retiring town clerk John Spencer's outstanding service and achievements. Mr Spencer will leave the post on February 29 after four years at the helm. Former mayor council

A FORMAL vote of thanks has been recorded by Honiton Town Council - in recognition of retiring town clerk John Spencer's outstanding service and achievements.Mr Spencer will leave the post on February 29 after four years at the helm.Former mayor councillor Sally Casson says she could not have carried out her two-year reign as the town's first lady without his help.Present mayor Councillor Vernon Whitlock led tributes at a meeting on Monday, saying Mr Spencer had done a "tremendous job" and had really helped to move Honiton forward.As well as bringing quality status to the council, Mr Spencer had been "a solid rock".A farewell meal has been arranged for March 14 and Mr Spencer was on Monday presented with a shield of the town crest.
