East Devon Community Safety Partnership has launched a campaign to stop anti-social behaviour in the community this hallowe’en and bonfire night. Letters have been sent to parents and carers advising that children are not to throw eggs and flour, and warning them to supervise any ‘trick or teat’ activities.
Shopkeepers have been asked to be on their guard when selling eggs and flour.
Gerry Moore, community safety and anti social behaviour co-ordinator for East Devon, said: “For several years now we have asked all members of the community to play their part in making sure that no one suffers any distress as a result of hallowe’en or bonfire night.
“As a result of everybody’s efforts, reports to the police of this sort of behaviour have shown no increase for a number of years.
“We must continue working together to make everyone in the community feel safe.”
The Partnership has written to firework retailers urging them to not sell fireworks to anyone under 18 or those they know are likely to misuse them.
Police Community Support Officers will be on hand to offer advice about stopping anti-social behaviour.
