Steve was nominated by TRIP’s deputy manager, Nikki Dawkins, for all of his advice and daily management of the organisation.

A volunteer driver for Honiton-based community transport charity TRIP saw his service rewarded with a prestigious accolade.

Steve Brownridge scooped the title of Community Transport Volunteer of the Year at an awards ceremony at Devon County Hall.

Steve was nominated by TRIP’s deputy manager, Nikki Dawkins, for all of his advice and daily management of the organisation.

He was recognised for being a ‘very active’ committee member, organising events such as TRIP Passenger Club’s Christmas lunch for 80 people, a variety show and an antiques valuation day.

Nikki said: “Steve also developed the concept of TRIP’s weekends and holidays for passengers, going to places such as Falmouth, Jersey and the Isle of Wight.

“He is known for having an eye for perfection and always being cheerful and willing to help.”

Speaking to the Herald, Steve said: “It was a great and unexpected honour to even be nominated for the award, let alone win it.

“I only do what lots of other people do for our community. Here’s hoping I can continue what I am doing for many years to come.”

He also praised TRIP, adding: “What the charity does is so vital to our community and I am very pleased to be involved with it.”

Derek Smith, company secretary and voluntary driver for TRIP, also scooped a volunteer award on the night, recognising his service to the community.
