Lyme motorist, 71, not badly hurt after her car hit an electricity pole
LYME Road in Axminster remains closed (5pm Thursday) after a car hit a pole carrying electricity cables.
The accident happened on the B3261 near Park Farm and involved only one vehicle, being driven by 71-year-old woman from Lyme Regis. It is thought she may have suffered a medical problem before the impact.
Police have sealed the road at its junction with the eastern end of the bypass and just above Sector Lane in Axminster.
Crews from Western Power are still at the scene replacing the pole.
A spokesman told The Herald that the cables carried only low voltage electricity and were not a great danger to the public.
Police have said the woman motorist was taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester for treatment but is not badly hurt. They say the road will reopen as soon as Western Power have replaced the broken pole.
