Village primary gains top ranking in all four categories after inspection

Mrs Ethelston’s Primary School at Uplyme is celebrating after being give a top rating by church schools’ inspectors.

It was ranked “outstanding“ in all four categories - Christian distinctiveness, RE teaching, collective worship and leadership and management.

The inspector commented on “the caring, harmonious relationships between the children based on the distinctive Christian values of friendship, forgiveness and love’ and the ‘outstanding leadership of the executive headteacher, head of Christian distinctiveness and governors.”

She added; “The school is at the heart of the church and local community. This has a profound effect on the children’s academic, personal and spiritual development, as well as their achievement.”

Executive headteacher Andrea Rice said: “We are thrilled to have achieved outstanding in all four categories.
