PLANS by Post Office Limited to close post offices in Offwell and Millwey Rise will be raised as an urgent item at tomorrow's meeting of Devon County Council. Executive member for communities Cllr Brian Berman has put the matter on the agenda. "The proposals look horrendous and far more damaging than we expected," he said."Many post offices are to be closed or replaced with a less adequate service. We need to look at the proposals in detail, gauge the reaction of the communities affected and speak to the Postmasters affected."We are very anxious to do what we can to help and mitigate the worst effects. We will be making a very strong protest against the proposals for Devon."County council leader Brian Greenslade said: "These proposals would be a body blow to local post office services and the health of communities. As we have already said, we will work with communities and the Post Office to try to sustain local post office services where we can and I am prepared to invest money to achieve this objective.
