Vandals hit festive lights at Offwell church

PUBLISHED: 11:00 15 December 2016

Vandals have destroyed a set of Christmas lights placed around Offwell Parish Church - for a second time in three weeks.

They first struck on November 25, destroying the colourful illuminations which had been placed around St Mary’s boundary wall by members of the local charity group ORSA.

At some expense the organisation replaced them, but over the weekend they were destroyed again.

PCSO Phil Anning said it appeared the wires had been grabbed and pulled, cutting them against the stone wall.

He added that he thought the culprit was likely to be local – possibly someone with a grudge.

Anyone with information about the criminal damage is asked to call police on 101 quoting crime reference CR/084178/16.

Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously on the Crimestoppers number 0800 555111.
