Vandals have struck at Honiton Bowling Club - damaging fence panels and breaking into the back of a shed.

Police are currently investigating the incident, which occurred some time between 6pm, on Thursday, July 16, and 8am, on Friday, July 17.

Tony Tooley, the club’s property manager, said that repairs had been made to the damage caused by ‘hooligans’.

He said: “We have put it all right now, but it is still annoying.

“We are normally quite lucky - we have not had an incident for a couple of years.”

Several chairs at the club were also moved around, prompting Mr Tooley to think that the damage was carried out by a group of people.

He added that the offenders did not steal anything from the club.

An appeal has been made by police, who are urging any witnesses to the incident, or anyone with information, to come forward.

Honiton PCSO Steve Mingo said: “The neighbourhood police team will be patrolling the town’s open areas including the Bowling Green over the summer holidays.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.”

Witnesses are urged to call 101 quoting crime reference CR/050736/15.
