A SEATON town councillor is calling for the lighting at Cliff Field to be better maintained - because all the lamps are currently broken.Cllr Peter Burrows said: "The lights have been out for months - it happens every year. "East Devon District Council runs out of money for the budget for maintenance because of vandalism."Why should Seaton Town Council pay to make the area look good when EDDC will not pay for the upkeep of the lights? It's as simple as that."A spokesman for East Devon District Council said: "The lights have been the subject of persistent vandalism over the last two years, so there is little point in replacing them. "The council's StreetScene service put in a capital bid to replace the existing lighting with new column lighting which we believe will be considerably more vandal-resistant."The bid was unsuccessful, but will be put forward again. "In the meantime, where we can, we will replace existing lights with column lighting. Unfortunately, we are not able to carry out all of this work in one go.
