A heavily smoking Ranger Rover has caused a Honiton A-road to become blocked this morning.

Initial reports indicated a blaze had broken out within the vehicle, but Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed it merely broke down.

A spokesman said the vehicle was pulled up on the hard shoulder of the A30, between the junctions leading off to the Iron Bridge and Turks Head Road.

He added: “There was a lot of smoke going over the carriageway, but no fire.”

Traffic is slow moving and the road is partially blocked, say police.

The incident happened at 10.53am today (Monday, June 4).
